Main Ingredients

  • 1500 g Pork Shoulder Should be fatty for tenderness.
  • 1 unit Onion Sliced.
  • 4 cloves Garlic Minced.
  • 250 ml Barbecue Sauce Use homemade or store-bought.
  • 2 tablespoons Brown Sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon Mustard
  • 1 tablespoon Smoked Paprika
  • 1 teaspoon Cayenne Pepper Optional, for an extra kick.
  • 100 ml Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 200 ml Chicken Broth
  • to taste Salt & Pepper To taste.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Season the pork shoulder with salt, pepper, and spices. Rub the seasoning into the meat.
  • Place the seasoned pork shoulder into your slow cooker.
  • Add the sliced onion, minced garlic, and remaining ingredients into the slow cooker.
  • If time allows, marinate for a couple of hours or overnight.

Cooking

  • Cover and cook on low for about 8 hours, or on high for 4-5 hours.
  • Once the pork is fork-tender, shred it right in the pot.
  • Mix the shredded pork with the sauce and adjust seasoning if needed.

Notes

Make this dish a day or two before serving for better flavor. Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 4 days and reheat gently.
