Ingredients
  

For the Pie

  • 1 deep-dish deep-dish pizza crust Pre-made crust can save time.
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese Sprinkle generously on top
  • 1 cup cooked and crumbled Italian sausage Can substitute with chicken or ground beef
  • 1 cup chopped bell peppers Use any colors of bell peppers
  • 1/2 cup sliced mushrooms
  • 1/2 cup diced onion
  • 1/2 cup pizza sauce
  • 1 each egg For egg wash on top
  • to taste none Salt and pepper Season to your liking

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  • In a skillet, sauté the onions, bell peppers, and mushrooms for about 5 minutes until soft.
  • In a large bowl, combine the sautéed vegetables with the cooked sausage and pizza sauce. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Roll out the pizza crust and place it in a pie dish. Fill it with the sausage mixture and top with mozzarella cheese.
  • Cover with another layer of crust, seal the edges, and brush the top with beaten egg. Make slits in the top for steam.

Cooking

  • Bake in the oven for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown. Let it cool slightly before slicing.

Notes

You can make this ahead of time and store in the fridge, and kids can assist with the preparation! This dish pairs well with a fresh side salad or garlic bread.
