Ingredients
  

For the Onion Petals

  • 2 large onions Cut into petals.
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour Or gluten-free flour.
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs Substitute with crushed crackers if needed.
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper To taste.
  • Oil for frying Preheat to 375°F (190°C).

For the Copycat Bloomin' Onion Sauce

  • 1 cup mayonnaise Can use plant-based mayo.
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon horseradish sauce Can substitute with mustard.
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper Optional for heat.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat the oil in your deep fryer or large pot to 375°F (190°C).
  • Slice the onions in half and then cut into wedges to create the onion petals.
  • In a large bowl, combine the flour, breadcrumbs, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  • Dredge each onion petal in the flour mixture, shaking off excess flour.

Cooking

  • Fry the onion petals in batches until golden brown and crispy, about 3-5 minutes per batch.
  • Remove from oil and drain on paper towels.

Making the Sauce

  • In a bowl, mix together mayonnaise, ketchup, horseradish sauce, paprika, and cayenne pepper.

Serving

  • Serve the warm onion petals with the dipping sauce. Enjoy!

Notes

Onion petals are best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to two days. To reheat, use the oven for best results.
