  • 1 box lemon cake mix
  • 1 package (8 oz) cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 cup lemon zest or lemon juice optional but highly recommended
  • 1 cup water

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the lemon cake mix, melted butter, and water. Stir until smooth.
  • Spread the mixture evenly in a greased baking dish.
  • In another bowl, beat the softened cream cheese, sour cream, and powdered sugar together until super smooth.
  • Drop spoonfuls of the cream cheese mixture over the cake batter and spread evenly.
  • Optionally, sprinkle lemon zest or pour lemon juice over the top.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for about 30-35 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Let it cool for at least 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge. This dessert gets even better overnight. Reheat in the microwave for a few seconds before serving.
