Ingredients

Fritter Batter

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar can substitute with coconut sugar for a healthier option
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk can be dairy or non-dairy
  • 1 large egg
  • Vegetable oil for frying or use coconut oil if preferred

Apples

  • 2 large apples, chopped preferably Granny Smith for tartness

For Serving

  • Powdered sugar for dusting the more, the merrier!

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt.
  • In another bowl, whisk together the milk and egg.
  • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
  • Fold in the chopped apples.

Cooking

  • Heat oil in a deep skillet over medium heat (around 350°F).
  • Drop spoonfuls of the batter into the hot oil and fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes on each side.
  • Remove fritters and drain on paper towels then dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

Let the batter rest for a few minutes before frying for fluffiness. These can be made ahead and stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. They also freeze well and can be reheated in the oven on low to regain their crispiness.
